BUT, IT MIGHT BE INTERESTING TO KNOW THAT EVERY COUNTY WITHIN 100 MILES OF HOUSTON HAS ITS OWN ANNUAL FAIR.
EACH FAIR IS CHOCK FULL OF COUNTRY LIFE STYLE EVENTS SUCH AS; A KICK OFF PARADE, 4H AND FFA LIVESTOCK SHOW, RODEO, BBQ COOK OFF, QUEENS CONTEST, CALF SCRAMBLE, CONCESSIONS, EXHIBITS, MIDWAY CARNIVAL, CHILI COOK-OFF, FARM EQUIPMENT DISPLAYS, MUTTON BUSTING AND MUCH MORE.
THERE ARE A LOT OF REASONS TO HEAD OUT TO A COUNTY FAIR. FIRST OF ALL, PROCEEDS USUALLY GO TO YOUTH SCHOLARSHIPS. THEY ARE HELD ALL TIMES OF THE YEAR, SO IT IS EASY TO FIT ONE INTO THE FAMILY SCHEDULE. THERE WILL BE A LOT LESS TRAFFIC, PEOPLE AND CONFUSION THAN THERE IS AT THE HOUSTON LIVE STOCK SHOW AND RODEO. IT WILL GIVE YOU A CHANCE TO TAKE A ROAD TRIP TO THE COUNTRY NOT TO MENTION EXPERIENCING SOME AUTHENTIC COUNTRY LIFESTYLE.

4-H AND FFA
These two youth organizations have been integral parts of county fairs in Texas for over 100 years. The first county fairs were primarily junior livestock shows featuring young people’s projects. 4-H and FFA are part of the system of training and educating rural young people. FFA (Future Farmers of America) is a formal education program sponsored by the local high schools. 4-H is an after school program for kids of all school ages sponsored by the Texas A&M AgrilLife Extension Service.
