GREAT BARBECUE JOINTS WITHIN 100 MILES OF HOUSTON

There are a lot of Texas BBQ lists; Texas Monthly, Trip Advisor, Yelp, and a lot more. Most of them focus on places like Austin, Lockhart, Taylor, and Elgin. Don’t get me wrong. I have eaten at most of them and they are good. Most BBQ is. But I think BBQ joints within 100 miles of Houston get the short end of the stick attention wise.

I have made my living appraising, buying, selling and brokering rural property all of my adult life and that means traveling. When you drive over 30,000 miles a year looking at property in the country, you get to eat at a lot of small town BBQ joints. I have stopped by some of the best all over Texas.

My market area is rural land near Houston and I know from experience some of the best BBQ in Texas can be found within two hours of Houston.

So here is my list of favorites:

Jerry started with a meat market in Georgetown in 1945 then moved to Bastrop in 1948. He moved the business to downtown Columbus in 1956 and in 1987 moved to the present location.
